A drama not only affects people mentally, it also affects them emotionally. In this particular play, the role of Biff Loman played by John Malkovich in the movie Death of Salesman is of a tough guy. Story of the play revolves around the character, he is no saint, he is portrayed as flawed and cheat just like many of us but instead of feeling remorse for the character the audience is inclined towards him. He has multiple moral issues he steals from his bosses, but there is an aspect of personal development present in Biff. He wants to change he has an open assessment of right and wrong in different parts of the play.
In this dialogue driven drama, Biff is the eldest son of Willy, and Willy considers him as the apple of his eye. In this play I have observed that there is constant urge in Biff to impress and make his dad happy, he soon realizes that what he wishes is not possible and they both have different dreams to pursue. In the selected scene Biff openly criticizes his dad, he says that his dad has made him very arrogant as a boy that he cannot stand working for anyone of his bosses In the final moment the father and son have too much of unresolved business that they are unable to communicate freely (Youtube,2011).
In the selected scene, Biff is trying to make a point he is just not like every other American Man, the dream of America is not the dream of every other individual to gain success and money, whereas, most of the people are looking for acceptance and love. Biff is looking for the basic needs of life, he wants his dad to stop being so materialistic. I feel that Biff is trying to defend his right to feel passionate for his own believes, and he wants to be known for what he has been rather than what his father wants him to be.He expresses his concern was in a very stern and passionate way. The delivery of dialogue is very intense, it portrays the pain that he has been through during the period of struggle (Youtube, 2011).
