Introduction

The overall performance of the organization depends up the individual performances of its employees. In order to be successful among the competitors in the industry, the organizations are first required to develop an accurate level of motivation among the employees so as to attain the desired performance levels from the employees. The motivation is a process of developing the goal - directed behaviour among the employees by satisfying the needs of the individual employees (Dianna, P., 2005, pp. 114). There are various approaches and strategies that are developed and implemented by the human resources departments of the organizations in order to develop motivation among their employees.

The following section aims at discussing briefly the motivational theories and strategies that are used by the human resource management department of the Tesco. The analysis will show us that how the organization is sustaining in highly competitive environment with its effective strategic human resource management approaches.

Tesco is a well known UK based organization that is operating in the retailing industry since many years. The organization was established in the year 1919. The organization is also considered as the second largest organization that is generating high level of profits. Tesco is operating among the giant competitors in the industry with adequate level of success and reputation. In United Kingdom, Tesco is operating as a market leader that leads new trends in the industry.

Impact of leadership styles on motivation in organization

There are a number of leadership styles that are implemented within the organizations to practice the motivational theories. The leadership styles have great impact upon the employees' motivation, particularly in the periods of change. Different leadership styles are used by the managers of the organizations in order to influence the people and to provide them the direction in way that in the end attains and satisfies the organizational goals and organizational missions (Sharlyn, J. L., 2005, pp. 9).

The analysis of the leadership style within Tesco has shown that the organization follows the autocratic style of leadership and management approaches. The organization follows these approaches because it operates in multiple regions both locally and internationally. The autocratic style of leadership has allowed the organization to have full control over its business and management operations wherever it operates.
