Motivational Interviewing and Family Nursing Practice

Project Aim

The project aims to analyze the significance of motivational interviewing in reference with the field of family nursing practice. Therefore, the research hypothesis of the project could be;

H0: Motivational interviewing is an important aspect of family nursing practice.

H1: Motivational interviewing is not an important aspect of family nursing practice

Professional Goal

The project seems extremely important for my development as a family nurse practitioner. In order to become effective family nurse practitioner; I believe I must possess extremely good communication skills. The role of a family nurse is to observe almost every aspect of a person's health (Miller & Rollnick, 2012). Also, family nurse practitioners are essentially well driven to develop cordial relationships with the patients. Therefore, motivational interviewing remains an extremely important aspect of the field of family nursing practice (Dart, 2010). Since the project intends to inquire about the motivational interviewing; the project would help me develop as an effective family nurse practitioner. Through the project; I will be able to gauge some of the major aspects of interviewing the patients. I believe I will become a better interviewer, observer and interpreter of the problems of patients after the completion of this project.

Project Objectives

The basic project objective is to observe the linkage between the motivational interviewing and the field of family nursing practice. Other linked objectives of the project are;

To inquire about motivational interviewing

To assess the different aspects and major components of motivational interviewing

To gauge the usefulness of motivational interviewing in the field of family nursing practice

To assess how the knowledge of motivational interviewing can enhance the development of family nurse practitioners

To observe how the lack of knowledge about motivational interviewing can negatively impact the process of family nursing

Relevance

The proposed project is extremely relevant to the contemporary nursing practices. Everything changes with the passage of time and so as the nursing practices. The underlying nursing practices have changed and nurses are now being given more importance then they have ever received. The concept of family nurse practitioners remains a relatively new one. This concept has widened the scope of nursing practices. The project aims to inquire about the significance of motivational interviewing in the field of family nursing practice. The project is intended to address a gap in the existing knowledge base about motivational interviewing and its significance within the field of family nursing practice. The project would elaborate the importance of motivational interviewing in the field of nursing. The project would also make the nurses convince to use motivational interviewing in order to develop as effective family nurse practitioners.

Methods

For every project to become successful, there are different strategies and methods which are followed. This project is entirely qualitative and therefore it would use the qualitative techniques for the purpose of achieving the aims of the project. Focus groups, case studies, unstructured interviews and direct observations are the basic techniques that are utilized for the qualitative projects.
