This research paper focuses on two aspects of motivation: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. It links the different theories, authors and processes that characterize each of these two motivations. The study of extrinsic motivation introduces the behavioral approach to the study of motivation. Behaviorism does not deny that the conduct has internal causes, but the authors believe that the root causes of behavior are outside and not inside the person. Moreover, the study of intrinsic motivation is a research tradition that has evolved almost counter-current with the behavioral approach. Theorists propose that humans are inherently active and are intrinsically motivated. Intrinsic motivation encourages the individual to confront challenges and find news. The domain acquisition makes the person is able to adapt to the challenges and curiosities of the environment (Byrne, 2004).
Thesis Statement
This research paper emphasizes on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and how it applies to learning in a classroom setting.
Aims and Objectives
This research paper focuses on achieving following aims and objectives:
To understand the concept of Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation
To analyze the benefits and downfalls of Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation.
Discussion
Extrinsic motivation is motivated by rewards or incentives independent of the activity itself that the individual goes through to get them and whose control depends on people or events external to subject it to the activity. Intrinsic motivation is based on characteristic aspects of the activity itself, motivating themselves and falling under the control of the subject. According to prior studies intrinsic motivation can be defended in terms of natural interest or interest learned and accepted in a certain psychological level (Gulikers, 2008). Represents the rewards or compensation that are identified with the action itself without the mediation of others, which are under the control of the individual performing the action or decision is made to perform it. One difference between the two can be established by noting that promotes intrinsic motivation to do what I really want to do; extrinsic motivation leads us to do certain activities so that we can cover a range of needs through to get compensation in return. The distinction between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation is based on:
The motivating power of goals, rewards or incentives;
Locus of control on it that is the subject or thinks children have.
