Motivational Theories and Factors

There are a lot of theories and factors which are motivating an employee towards job. These theories are as follows.

Needs Theory

Earlier, motivation is defined as a tool for fulfilling basic needs. It includes Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of needs theory. In this theory, he has described various factors which can give inner satisfaction to an individual. He has arranged these factors in ascending order. These include psychological, security, belongingness, self esteem and self actualization. He said that an employee should need all these characteristics for motivation. It can help managers in providing their employees with all these factors for motivation. But researchers said that there are some limitations of the Maslow's theory so they have developed various other theories for removing his deficiencies. These theories include ERG Theory, Two-factor Theory and many others. They have worked for the employee motivation and explain these theories in terms of employee motivation (Anderfuhren-Biget et al., 2010).
