Moral Dilemma

Introduction

In our daily lives, we have to put up with situations where we have to make choices or decisions. At times such situations are awkward and call for making tough choices. Instances that require us to consider the ethical aspect are regarded as moral dilemmas. After looking at the dilemma of morality, people look at probable choices that they can make. Each choice seems to be the right one in their own respect, and depending upon our personal experiences we make a choice. To make a decision we have to find the arguments in favor of each of the two options before us. Not any argument, but only those who can morally justify what we do. If someone asks us why we stuck to a partner in class, we can answer that it is because you hate, is certainly one explanation, but it is very difficult for anyone to believe that our action is justified with the explanation. Explain why we do things is not the same to justify them (Rose, 2003, pp.123-124).

Discussion

In the case of the dilemma, the problem is that there are arguments in favor of each of the options. In order to make a well justified is very important that we consider the various arguments, not just those who are in favor of the option that, in principle, we feel good, but also those who are in favor of the alternative. The situations of such nature that can arise in my life could be many. One situation is where I have gone to a grocery store and after leaving I realize that the person at the cash counter has given a dollar extra change. Just when I decide to go back to the store to return the money I see a homeless man begging for money. I could return the money to its rightful owner which is the grocery store person, or just use the money for some good cause. It is just a dollar, and it would not affect the store owner as much as it would be of value to that person asking for money.

The beggar is in need for money, and a dollar could be one times meal. It would additionally be beneficial for the owner as he would get the prayer of a homeless man. After thinking thoroughly about what I should do in such a situation, I realized that the rightful owner of the dollar was the grocery store person, and it is his decision of whether he should give it a homeless person or use it for another purpose. If he pleases, I will give the homeless person the money so he feels that he also gets the good feeling of doing something for someone. As it is his money, he has the right to decide whether it should be given to someone or not. Maybe, the guy at the cashier may not agree to give the beggar that one dollar for whatever reason he feels is right.
