Mood Swing Disorder

Introduction

Mood disorder is one of the most common psychological disorders found in a number of people. Mood is defined as a sustained emotional attitude in psychology. Mood disorders are defined as conditions in which the 'mood itself is a primary, predominant problem'. Disturbance of mood can be because of a number of reasons like depression or elation, bipolar disorder, cyclothymiacs disorder, and Dysthymic disorders. In case of bipolar disorder, people tend to get a rush of ideas, hallucinations, loss of judgment, and becoming irrational and psychotic in the final stage. In cyclothymiacs disorder, a person is unable of performing that he has learned previously and even though his muscles are capable of doing the task. Thymia is a Greek word which means 'mind'. Dysthymia is a mild form of depression and it basically affects the ability of an individual to enjoy lively activities. All these disorders can affect the living of a person badly and treatments and self care are required to minimize the overall impact of these disorders.

Discussion

It is a common point that people who realize that they are suffering from some sort of psychological disease, tend to further get depressed. In all the types of mood disorders, the affected person understands at one stage or another about the unusual behavior and the reason behind that attitude. This is probably the hardest situation for any person because it is demoralizing for anyone to know about being incapable of handling of one own self.

The shock of being affected from a psychological disorder and that too from the common mood disorder, can lead to steps that are further detrimental for the health and lifestyle of the affected. The most adhesive step is to get involved in drugs and drinking. This usage increases with the increase in the mood disorder and at a later, the affected person gets addicted to these drugs.

According to a research study on the 'Bipolar disorder and alcoholism', it has being commonly observed the people suffering the disorder are also inclined towards drinking and taking drugs on regular basis. Although, no one particular reason has been identified as the cause of this similarity, it is commonly assumed that some genetic link exists which is responsible. It has also been identified that the use of alcohol also impacts the clinical course to bipolar disorder. (Sonne et.al, 2013)

It is also important to mention that the trend is not only about using drugs and drinking after realizing the suffering from psychological disorder. According to the research paper 'The life-time rates of three major mood disorders and four major anxiety disorder in alcoholics and controls', the sample alcohol users showed a higher risk and tendency to develop mood and co-morbid psychiatric disorders (Schuckit and Tipp et al., 1997).
