Mobile Computing

Aims and Objectives

Advancement in wireless networking has driven a new idea of computing that is called mobile computing. In mobile computing, the portable devices, that user carry, have access to distributed infrastructure, this type of access does not depend on the physical location. The mobile computing helps in providing flexible communication between individuals and continuous access to services of networking. Mobile computing is transforming the way in which computers are being used.

These report intents to provide an insight of mobile computing. The main aim of this report is to provide an overview of different types of available mobile computing devices. In addition to this, the report will also cover the limitations of mobile computing technology

Communication System

In telecommunication field, a communication system is a set of private communication networks, tributary stations, relay stations, transmission systems, and data terminal equipment mainly capable of interoperation and interconnection to create an integrated network. The communication system components serve a general purpose, these components are technologically compatible, make use of general procedures, operate in synchronization, and respond to controls (Zimmerman, 1999, p.134). Telecommunication is a process of communication. A communication subsystem is an operational assembly and functional unit that small as compared to large assembly.

Function of a Communication Channel

In computer networking and telecommunications, a channel or communication is either logical connection on a multiplexed medium like radio channel, or it is physical transmission medium like a wire. A communication channel is used to carry an information signal, for instance a digital bit stream, from one or transmitters (or senders) to one or multiple receivers. A communication channel has a particular capacity of information transmission; this transmission capacity is measured with the help of its data rate in bps or by its bandwidth in Hertz.

Data communication from one location to another location requires any type of medium or pathway; these mediums are termed as communication channels. The communication channels use two forms of mediums: cable and broadcasting. Wireline or cable media utilize physical cable wires to transmit information and communication, whereas broadcasting medium make use of infrared, radio, satellite, and microwave (Kamal, 2012, p.45).

Mobile Computing

In the previous ten years, the arrival of mobile phones and laptops has significantly increased the accessibility of mobile phone devices to home users and businesses. More recently, small portable devices like PDAs, and particularly embedded devices have gradually changed the manner ...
