Misconduct as a Training Failure

Introduction

There are three examples of police misconduct that have been considered in the paper with the help of secondary sources. The examples clearly highlight the issue of misconduct and brutality by the police officials. Firstly, the case of Former Iraq Veteran - Jose Guerena is the best example of police brutality and misconduct. He was shot dead by primary county sheriff of SWAT officers. Guerena was accused of drug dealing operation but eventually he was not involved. The officers tried to prevent ambulance from getting accused person to medical attention. It is the clear example of police brutality, because Guerena was innocent.

Second example on which the analysis has been done is the case of Joseph Erin Hamley. This person was mentally disabled and shot by state trooper named Norman. Hamley was perceived as fugitive by Norman. Later on; Norman was accused of homicide, he faced a sentence of ninety days in jail. Hamley accepted a $1 million legal settlement from the state.

Lastly, Zerby was shot dead by the Long Beach police officers. He was shot 21 times to death. Zerby was accused of intoxicated and one of the elements which appear to be a gun was basically a metal tripled water nozzle. Police misunderstood Zerby and killed him; later on Zerby family filed a wrongful death law suit against police department. These three cases are the perfect examples of police brutality. The case clearly focuses and helps in defining that police misconduct mostly takes place due to the negligence of police department.
