Milletia Pinnata

Introduction

The aim of this research paper is to summarize the latest botanical research outcomes in Australia and overseas to use Milletia pinnata (Pongamia pinnata) for large scale oil production. In India and other countries such as in UK, Australia, USA, Africa various researches has been comducted to study the different properties of Milletia pinnata. In Australia, it seriously considered as an alternative source of fossil fuels. In India in 2003, the government provided free seeds to farmers in the arid southern parts of India. As a result, in 2003, around 20 million trees were planted in India and Australuia. Australia has about 27,700 species of plants, including living fossils as cycadophyte and Xanthorrhoea, and wildflowers in bright colors.

Despite the fact that all parts of the tree are toxic and can cause vomiting and poisoning if they fall inside the fruit, shoots and pongamii seeds long been used in the preparation of traditional medicines. Oil and pongamii are used as an antidote for healing the bite of venomous fish. Fruits of pongamii are around 2 cm long which contain 27-39% oil. Oil is obtained from the Milletia pinnata seeds by cold pressing. They are reddish brown in unrefined form and golden color is obtained in refined form. Milletia pinnata taste bitter and have unpleasant flavor.

Oil is one of the most important resources that is linked to the progression and development of the Australian economy. The production and distribution of oil contributes significantly to the economy of the world. The industries and plants are all dependent on the use of oil for their production and manufacturing facilities. The average oil demand of the Australia is estimated to be around 20 million barrels per day. The demand for oil is increasing throughout the world with the passage of time. On the other hand, the reserves of oil are decreasing with a fast pace due to more consumption. Some countries are rich with oil and they export the oil to oil deficient countries. The cost of imports of the oil is also increasing in the world that has lead to inflation in the global marketplace. The available reserves of oil are not considered to be sufficient for the future of the globe. The tree can grow quickly on sandy and rocky soils, including the limestone. It can grow in most soil types even with its roots in salt water. Milletia pinnata can be effective source of bio fuel which has the physical properties similar to conventional diesel.

Benefits and Implications of Milletia Pinnata

Milletia pinnata is a deciduous tree species of the legume family from India, which is also cultivated abundantly in South Asia. It grows to a height of 15-25 form a large crown. It blooms with small spikes of fragrant flowers, which can be white, pink and ...
