Introduction

Michael Jordan also known as MJ is a former professional basketball player of USA, and is considered as one of the greatest basket ball player of all time. Even though his basketball career summary and strong impact on the game fails to do justice, as an exceptional athlete with inimitable combination of elementary speed, power, soundness, grace, artistry, and voracious competitive desire, Michael Jordan redefined NBA superstar solely. There are many extraordinary players of basketball such as Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, who has acknowledged exceptional skills of Jordan and stated that he was different from all the players of basketball and no one is able to match his capabilities of playing (Porter 2007).

History of Michael Jordan

On February 17, 1963, Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father James used to work in an electric plant whereas his mother Delores Jordan was a banker. Despite the fact that Michael does not belonged to a rich family, his childhood was comfortable as he is a fourth member of James family. Michael has two elder brothers, one elder sister and one younger sister. Michael parents were concerned regarding the street and road conditions of Brooklyn where drug and violence was very common therefore; they moved to Wilmington, North California that was a small town, but conditions of that region was better as compared to Brooklyn, according to the parents of Michael. Thus, Wilmington is a town where Michael and his family grew up. After settling in Wilmington, parents of Michael started to set an example for their children by making them believe that if efforts are made hard, then everything can be achieved in life and one should not wait for anything to happen (Porter 2007).

Since Michael was not able to compete with his brother Lary, he was mostly discouraged by friends and family. Moreover, Michael was not tall in his early stages and there were no chances that he will become tall as none of the Jordan family members was able to reach 6 feet before therefore, Michael never thought of becoming a professional basketball player. As compared to basketball, the sport that he took initially was baseball and he was named top player of a league when he reached age of 12. Michael was typically 15 years old athlete when he attended D.C Virgo Junior High School. At tenth grade when he reached Laney High School, everything was changed for Michael and he became even taller than his dad. This was the first time in his life when he became quarterback of football team for Laney JV (Porter 2007).

Michael love for basketball started by chance when his elder brother Lary beat him many times in a one on one challenge and this was the time when Michael motivation to become a better basketball player started.
