Re: United Nations Development Program Funding

A visit has been scheduled for Oct 29, 2013 at 14:00 to the United Nations Development Program headquarters located in New York. The primary objective of this meeting is to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the organization so as to facilitate your decisions on future funding of the organization.

The United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) is the organ of the United Nations (UN) that has a mandate to promote development while also striving towards the elimination of poverty around the world. Among other activities, UNDP produces reports and studies on human development sustainable and living conditions of the populations, as well as carries out projects that improve these living conditions in 166 countries which has representation.

UNDP offers and partnerships with institutions in each country, a set of knowledge and resources to be applied together with civil society. One example of their actions, are the "Millennium Development" signed in 2000, committed by the leaders of various countries.

In addition to overcoming poverty, UNDP aims to defend democracy, poverty reduction, environment and access to energy. Also works in the continuous respect for human rights and gender equality.

UNDP is acting to help meet the specific problems of our according to the principles of modernization of the state structure, fight against poverty, social exclusion and environmental protection, as well as the use sustainable use of its resources. We can also cite the UNDP's efforts to expand access to justice for individuals belonging to the poorer classes, and the inclusion of funding for alternative sentencing.

Globally, UNDP supports government interventions aimed at macroeconomic stability, fiscal reforms and encouraging efficient revenue management. To improve governance, encourages the introduction of information and communication technologies to the poorest communities. Related to environmental issues, works to improve the lives and incomes of indigenous communities, small farmers in balance with the environment, acting on incentives for sanitation, water supply and electricity to low-income consumers.

Among the projects, there is the deployment of renewable energy in rural areas. In the 90s, the UNDP was responsible for introducing the world over the concept of sustainable development, as measured by the Human Development Index (HDI). The HDI measures the degree of development of a country and region, and was created by Professor Amartya Sen, Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998.

The United Nations Development Program is known for devising the Human Development Index (HDI), as well as being the international body that coordinates the work of other agencies, funds and programs of the United Nations - together known as the UN system - in the countries where it operates. In addition, UNDP disseminates the Millennium Development Goals , set of 8 goals, 22 targets and 48 indicators for the development of the world, to be met by 2015 , set by UN member states in 2000 , and monitors the progress of countries direction at your fingertips.
