The case study mainly focuses on the domestic violence and the laws or policies related to it. Domestic violence and the exposure of children to it represent a widespread social problem today. Due to this the amendment made by the Adoption and Children act 2002, in the definition of harm provided by the Children act 1989, has drawn a potential huge group of families within the remit of social services of children (Stanley, Miller, Foster, & Thomson, 2010, p.9). Thus, this case also falls under this legal context. For the security of children from domestic violence exposure, the government has established a notification system through which notifies to police and then social services regarding domestic violence occurrence in families and then these institutions provide security to the children and penalties to the person who is responsible for violence, under the legal and policy context. As also evident from this case study, the police and social workers work together constantly to share more information regarding children and families who need help and intervention, and operate the notification system more effectively (Stanley, Miller, Foster, & Thomson, 2010, p.10).
Issues related to human growth and development
In this case study, the issues related to human growth and development can be associated with all the three members of the family. Charlie has become unhealthy mentally, as she was suffering with post-natal depression, and further she faced the domestic violence by his husband, Theo. All these things have further contributed to her growth and developmental issues. On the other hand, Theo has become abusive and also involves in substance abuse because of the growing tensions in his house. He just couldn't have cooped up with the situations around him like his ill wife and disturbed routine, due to which he has grown and developed as a harsh and abusive person.
Most importantly the issues of human growth and development involve in this case study are associated with their daughter Caisey. Who has been exposing domestic violence since her childhood and had seen fulltime disturb family around her. Keeping in mind that children not only develop or grow physically but mentally as well, the situations around Caisey can cause major health and development problem in her. As evident from the studies, the exposure of children to domestic violence predicts poor development and health (Yount, DiGirolamo, & Ramakhrishnan, 2011, n.d). Further research also indicates that when children witness the violence by their parents it threatens their sense of protection and stability (www.klhdvcc.ca). Thus, studies shows that in this case besides immediate or permanent physical harm, Caisey can also suffer from long-term or short-term behavioral, emotional, or developmental problems, which can include PTSD. The studies with regards to children growth and development in domestic violence exposure indicates that the children who are exposed to family violence can have high levels of trauma and fear and also feel ...
