Section A

Introduction

Mechanical Engineering is said to be a discipline which can be termed as an extension of engineering which entails the principles as well as the teachings of physics and material science (American Institute of Architects, 2007; Gilbert, 2009; Anon, 2007a; Anon, 2007b). Manufacturing engineering can also be termed as a discipline that is said to be concerned with engineering and constitutes manufacturing oriented practices along with the developments in relation to the systems, machines, processes, equipment and tools. At a basic level it is said to deal with machineries that aid in the conversion or the transformation of raw materials to finished product.

These two disciplines when combined together form a hybrid, making ways for yielding synergetic outcomes and further elevate the performance, ability, capacity, design and maintenance of mechanical systems that are said to be running and is employed in the current settings (Anon, 2007c; Anon, 2007d; Anon, 2007e; Osyk, Vijayaraman, Srinivasan and Dey, 2012).

These days, where constant changes have become an inevitable factor, sustainability is said to be an issue that is crucial by nature (Berndtson, 2005; Desarbo, Di Benedetto, Song and Sinha, 2005; Eastman, 2009; Male, 1963).

When it comes to the creation and establishment of efficient and effective machines, mechanical engineering is set to employ the basics of product lifecycle management and computer-aided engineering in order to establish a more concrete (Kettunen, 2006).

This discipline has developed to the extent that the developed countries such as the United States now is dedicated towards the investmenting in this forte and has been investing intangibly in terms of efforts, which not only make way for the country to adopt only to the field of engineering but also has developed liaison with multiple disciplines in order to assist and develop the overall progress of the country as well as community development (Lindstedt, 2002; Members of the Staff of Mechanical Engineering Department, Rugby College of Engineering Technology, 1963).

Applications of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering has had complete transformation as it entails a derivative of engineering that is highly refined and based on its demand it has been bestowed with separate reputation in the field of education and teaches altogether (Teo, Ling and Ong, 2005).

Ranging from dynamics (the study of forces and their impact upon tangible bodies) to the mechanics of materials (how materials respond to varying levels of exposure to stress) to statics (understanding the movement and comprehending the shift of change in non-moving bodies under known load and how forces affect static bodies), mechanical engineering is growing threefold and beyond (Tommelein, 1998;).

Nowadays, with endless changes and transformation prevalent, it is predicted that mechanical engineering continues to make way for progress and expansion in the world (Tommelein, Riley and Howell, 1999; Xue, Wang, Shen and Yua, 2007; Zwikael, 2009). Authors and universities altogether work on the model of collaboration, which make way for reducing the magnitude of difficulty and progressively make way for execution.
