Introduction

The main purpose of this action report is to make an analysis on major communication channels used by students in McGill. The action report makes discussion on the ways through which the faculty members and students of McGill University use these communication channels. Proper management of communication at the McGill University plays a key role in the strategic plans of universities. The current Bologna process and change management necessarily need communication to ensure proper implementation of the new university degrees. The communication management in universities is a complex task, since in this area sociologically diverse groups coexist with demands and expectations. This action report analyzes the communication of the McGill University, understood from the perception of their public, and the use of the different channels and tools are in place (Blumenfeld, 1991, p. 369).

The management of communication in Universities has been studied for years, although in United States the research in this field has been intensively developed since late last century (Friedland, 2001, p. 358). Fosnot (1996) states that investment in communication means investing in human capital, intangible benefits and long term, and therefore the investment is to create organizational coherence, identity, unity, participation and control by a project common. As highlighted by Fosnot (1996): "A participatory management style based on trust and communication, along with the construction of formal and informal channels which accommodate the different business structures, promote the effectiveness of internal communication in business, and to lead ultimately is to integrate, perform, listen, create team.” The communications professionals university are then good part of the criteria that guide the necessary adaptation to new forms of communicate, in addition to their own re- push to keep on their professional experiences (Johnson, 1996, p. 45).

Also, the communication management in universities cannot be reduced to the mere appearance in the media, but communication implies active participation to achieve strengthen its current image. The search for shared civic spaces between the university and surrounding environment are the best way for communication strategies which are effective, and in this sense, internal communication with students, teachers and all staff and service management is vital (Friedland, 2001, p. 358).
