This is a debate which is currently sustained by the increasing globalization of economic activity.Are societies and organizations becoming increasingly alike across the world? A number of writers, from Harbinson and Myers and Kerr et al. to Pugh, have argued that developments in technology and economics are creating a world which is less differentiated - most societies now have automobiles, watches, radios or televisions and the number of these products is increasing. At the level of the organization the logic of the argument suggests that an increasing number of businesses are driven by such things as profit and loss accounts, marketing and effective management information systems.
