MBA Personal Statement

Why I want to do MBA?

I have been planning to do MBA for past 10 years since completing BSC in Business Computer Systems. However due to family commitments I was unable to start the MBA. I started to work for NG in 2000 as an admin assistant. This was my summer job, however when I passed BSC in Business Computer System I started to work on the IT help desk. The call centre environment was busy and very challenging. I took an interest in the metering system and later I was on secondment for Call Centre Team leader. This was my very first managerial role and although you had a team of 16 at times you were looking after 70 call centre staff. This was my first managerial experience and I enjoyed it very much. It was a busy challenging role. 2 years experience of managing a team this includes development reviews, STC, setting targets, Quality monitoring, back to work discussions sickness reviews etc. I also have been involved with Risk Management Systems. Managing the risk register and ensuring Risks are updated and producing the risk summary.

Also I have been responsible for collating and distributing the Sickness and WTR reports for Distribution Support and Operations. I have had to work with HR, DS and OPS to resolve queries and ensuring the reports are accurate and sent within SLA. I have started the MBA and in my first year and the topics covered are Finance, Marketing, Operations and change management. I believe that the MBA will help me to think strategically and will encourage me to take several initiatives and perspectives on the managerial issues and the specific requirement of my department. Time management skills have been improved too as it's not easy balancing work, family and study.

Completion of MBA

The completion of MBA will provide insight and assist me to have the clear understanding of the departmental and managerial issues and problems. The accomplishment of the MBA degree will help to anal size the problems of my department strategically. The adoption of the creative thinking, leadership skills, methods and tools for the superior performance will be the core advantages of the MBA degree for me. Also the MBA exposes you to different issues facing businesses in different markets which can help to gain understanding of the business world.

I have already started to use my skills gained from the first module. My Evidence Based Initiative was about motivation and communication. Looking at the ways in which the department interacts and communicates with its partners. What are the potential blockers. I have showed my findings using a rich picture, and used a team building exercise to improve communication and motivation. As I study on I can use the tutor marked assignments to address the challenges which I may experience in my job (to solve real life problems) motivation, communication issues.
