Tools studied in MBA are of worth importance for any business whether it's public or a private company. Hospitals are very significant, and meaningful place for humans, managing and identifying the problems of a hospital is very crucial job, and experienced professionals are needed to accomplish this task (Turnbull 1936). This report is regarding the MBA Capstone project; in this project I have chosen a hospital as my study case.
Organizational Background
For the use of MBA tools, a hospital named Bucktail Medical Center (BMC) in Renovo; Clinton County, Pennsylvania has been selected. BMC is among the 20 most famous hospitals in Pennsylvania and serving the healthcare needs of North Central Pennsylvania for almost 102 years, BMC (Bucktail Medical Center) is comprised of 21 swing beds and 43 skilled nursing beds (BMC, 2008). This hospital provides a full-service Emergency Department and Community Clinic; moreover it also provides laboratory, ambulance, radiology, occupational therapy, and speech and physical therapy services. Bucktail Medical Center is a private and a profit oriented organization having an adequate need of the MBA tools that include human resource, hospital ethics, IT strategic solution and IT (Information Technology) project management, E-Business (including Telemedicine and online treatment facility) and financial analysis.
The hospital provides three main services; hospital, nursing home, and community clinic. A forty three bed Skilled Nursing Facility provided by BMC is a well maintained opportunity for all of its residents. Moreover, a significant volunteer program helps residents to maintain close contacts with their neighbors. A state-of-the-art community clinic is effectively working under the banner of Bucktail Medical Center in the area of Western Clinton County. It offers services of certified clinicians and physicians to the residents of the county.
Problem Identification
The organization has been growing with a decent pace, for many years. However, organization has faced consecutive losses for a couple of years. The management has find out that the hospital is having major issues in administration of all of its departments, or in other words, the organization is not being managed effectively and efficiently, which is causing regular increases in costs, but providing less in revenues. These problems are having a direct effect on the popularity and prosperity of the hospital. Due to the upcoming visit of American Hospital Association (AHA), this hospital has to overcome these problems as early as possible before the visit of AHA (American Hospital Association) team. The financial losses are getting unacceptable for the management. As indicated by the Medical Director and the Manager of Internal Audit Department of the hospital, it is facing many significant problems in terms of business administration, due to this reason the hospital is having problems in managing its daily tasks, and moreover the hospital is also facing financial losses due to which it has taken a loan of $30000 from the bank.
