Introduction

Wedding can be defined as a ceremony where two people are united. Wedding traditions vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions and countries. However the word wed has been derived from Greek word that means 'pledge', therefore no matter where an individual belongs to marriage for everyone marriage is about making pledge yourself to another. This pledge is made to the partner for lifetime in front of family and friends who stand as witnesses. The pledge has to be made with sincerity to be true and faithful, and loving to the other person. Marriage can be defined as a relationship that brings together two people who love each other, creates a bond between their families and tribes.

People enter into a new phase of life when they get married, with hopes and expectations form their partner. There are differences in the ways that people get married they follow different traditions, the way brides and grooms are dressed, the food that is served and even the music being played may vary. People living in Saudi Arabia are mostly Muslims and follow the religion Islam the way they have a completely different culture than that of Americans. America is a diverse country and their traditions of getting married are very flexible. The two words “I do” for couples belonging to both the cultures are very strong and it is like signing a contract and being abide to it forever. However in both the traditions marriage is not any business but it is a relationship based on love and sincerity, but the way of admitting to it is different in the two cultures.

Culture forms a society, the beliefs and norms of an individual are based on its culture, thus culture and traditions vary around the globe, therefore customs and traditions are also distinguished of different nations. Tying the knot comes with a list of traditions and rituals that may not be the same in different countries across the world. Marriage is a social union between two people that tends to create kinship. The way in which marriage takes place has changed with passing years, depending on the culture and beliefs of individuals.
