Introduction

The management of the business operation effectively and efficiently has grown difficult over the period of time especially after the phenomena of globalization. It is the common experience of the successful multinational cooperation to convert the challenges posed by globalization into the strength of an organization. One of the basic features of the impact of globalization on the business operation is to manage the cultural diversity. Similarly there are some other relevant implications of globalization which can affect business activities like competition and international business environment.

Tesco is the British based multinational retailer and it is ranked as the second largest after Wal-Mart. It has started its operation in 1919 and it has seen all the ups and downs within the industry. The success of the Tesco is mostly attributed to the effective and efficient management of its operation throughout the world. As its operations are spread all over the world, it has capitalized the challenges of globalization into its strengths.

Task 1.1 (A)

The internal structure of Tesco is interesting concerned to its global size and activities. In order to achieve better efficiency and performance the employees are divided into departments by Tesco. Research and development, customer service, production, sales, marketing, ICT, Human Resources, Finance, Distribution and Administration are the functional departments inside Tesco (Boakye Owusu & Et.al, 2012, pp. 22). Different responsibilities and activities are acquired by each area. A wide range of daily tasks is the responsibility of the administration staff.

The assurance of products to be at the right place in the best condition and on time is the responsibility of the distribution staff. Secondly, a wide range of different products that are produced by large firms, like, Tesco are divided into categories in accordance to specific characteristics, like, design, packaging, quality and price. Tesco Kids, Tesco Value, Tesco Finest, Tesco Healthy Living, Tesco Organic and Tesco are the six different brands used by Tesco (Bather & Tucker, 2011, pp. 137). Dealing with processes and in order to perform each processes even better, division of a firm in departments and a product is required, which is the third part of organisational structure.

Geographical area is another part. All over the world, many subsidiaries are acquired by Tesco as being a multinational firm. This means that the main processes and functions will might form locally in accordance to culture of different place but will not change significantly. Dealing with different types of customers is the most significant and last part. It is a fact that in compare to other needs, there are sets of customers who require more time and attention.
