Margaret Newman felt the calling to nursing for the number of years before its decision to enter the field. Meanwhile, he became the primary caregiver for her mother, who became ill with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Upon entry of nursing at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, Dr. Newman knew almost instantly that breastfeeding is good for him. the signs of the complexity of human health and disease are difficult and demanding, as she said, "to the best of my knowledge and my whole mankind" (Newman 1994). the year after receiving his bachelor of nursing, she entered the office of graduate studies in nursing medicine and surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, where he received his MA in 1964. At the time of between three years before returning to graduate school, he served in the joint capacity as Director of Nursing Clinical Research Center and assistant professor of nursing at the University of Tennessee Memphis.( Alligood 2010)

The next ten years were devoted to higher education (Ph.D., 1971) and education (1971-1977) at New York University. He began to develop his ideas and research in nursing theory as both the student and colleague of Martha Rogers. In the fall of 1977, he assumed the post of professor in charge of graduate studies in nursing at Penn State. In response to an invitation to speak at the conference on the theory of nursing in New York in 1978, Dr. Newman has assembled his thoughts on the theory of health and presented for the first time. Meanwhile, he continued research on the relationship in the movement, time and consciousness, and develops the theory of health as expanding consciousness. In 1984, he took the position as nurse theorist at the University of Minnesota, the further development of theory and related research to help students graduate. He retired from educating in 1996.
