The Universal Association for the Conservation and Improvement of Black (UNIA) and African Communities League (ACL) was founded in Kingston (Jamaica) by Marcus Garvey in 1914. His motto was "One God, One Goal, One Destiny"; this target was that "all people of African ancestor of the world unite in a great body to establish a cloth.

He traveled to and back to Jamaica, in August 1914; he founded the Universal Association for the Improvement of Black Man, UNIA its acronym in English and became its president. Among the founding members was Amy Ashwood, ...
