Abstract

There is a view in the minds of the public and policy makers that the President should have served in the military during his lifetime. However, it is very uncommon to find a President these days who has served in the military. The reason is that soon after the world wars, it was common to find people who had served in the military but now that the United States does not demand a huge military, it is not common to fine ex-military personel as a candidate for the President.
