Task 1: Case 1

Network Diagram

Determination of Total Float and Activity Timing

The illustration is called the network diagram of Vobien Ltd. The diagram helps to establish a Logical relationship among a wide range of activities also allowing the observer to understand them with greater clarity. In the event that there is a positive aggregate float, this will represent the maximum that an activity of a specific route can be delayed without compromising on the completion time of the entire project. However, in the event that the aggregate float is represented by a zero, there the activity being carried out on the route will not be delayed since there is no need to do that. The aggregate float relating to activities of specific routes common with different tasks is distributed along these routes. To calculate the gap, the completion time is subtracted from the time of initiation:

Total slack = LF - EF or total float = LS - ES

“Free float” is a term that relates to the time that a particular activity will need without causing any delays in the earliest beginning time of successor activities. It can be described as the relative difference that can be observed between total slack of the various activities. The free float can be explained by the relative differences between the values of the total float which is always taken as a positive value. This shows that there are certain activities where the free float is marked using a red shade.

Determination of Critical Path and Duration of the Project

The critical path (also known as CPM) was devised in the US in the year 1957. A connected concept is a pivotal chain that adds to the dependencies of the resource. The resource handler will rely on the status and positioning of the present critical path. Unlike the PERT (Technical Review and Program Evaluation), the method of critical path uses deterministic and real times. However, the establishment of a CPM- or PERT-based project is similar and involves the following:

Identifying activities involved in the project including determining precedent relationships as well as technical times of activities

Establishing network-based nodes and activities involving the project

Analyze  calculations, identify clearances of activities and critical path

In the illustrated network diagram, the drawn critical path is highlighted using the red colour. It comprises of the points where the slack was zero meaning that it was free float. The activities making up the critical path highlighted as A, C, B, G, F, L, K, N, M, O, and Q while the maximum amount of time taken to complete the project is 50 days.

If the project starts on ------ Assume no other holidays

The duration of the project is equivalent to the total amount of time measured in units (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly etc.) which is required in order to bring the project to completion.

The duration of the project duration would depend on the time taken to complete each of the tasks and the correlation between all the tasks.

Provided the date of starting, the initiation of the project does not ...
