Managing Business Activity

Introduction

Now a day, the emergence of global concepts has increased the pressure on the companies for the production of products in different varieties and with reduced costs as much as possible. The main question comes up with the fact that how the companies can be able to be competitive and maintain their competitive advantage over their competitors. The answer to this question may not be so easy considering the fact of complexity of manufacturing systems in terms of their quality, efficiency and moreover their flexibility and innovate product development. In reacting to this statement, there are number of philosophies and concepts which are there for improvement in production and manufacturing that have already been developed for instance; lean and agile manufacturing. There have been several aiding technologies that also ensure the compliance of the business processes (Silveira, Rodriguez, Casati & Zouhair, 2012, pp. 14-20). There are such approaches that particularly focus on the flexibility by considering on delivering an increased number of products in comparatively smaller quantities and reacting quickly to ever changing transformations in demand.

However, up till now, there is not any program from which companies can gain competitive advantage and through the implementation of which companies can compete with winning approach in today's international markets. In order to further facilitate the companies with the improvement in their competitive advantage, combination systems have been originated through several sources for addressing what the systems if used alone could not complete, for instance; Leagile manufacturing, even though the combination systems are not enough to completely address all the problems which are associated with competitiveness (Anand & Goyal, 2009, pp. 438-452). However, in order to further enhance the competitiveness and eventually to get the success, companies are required to implement existing quality and production systems along with both new and old systems. The systems in combination can acclimatize to changing customer's needs and preferences and ensure companies to construct quality customer sized products on demand.

This report will be focusing on the Canon Company's change towards Leagile manufacturing. The main emphasis of this repot will be on the concepts of lean production and their implementation. Initially the operations for Leagile manufacturing were carried out by the implementation of MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning), which was considered as one of the best way for carrying out manufacturing concerns and production processes, and the implementation of MRP was quite successful in the companies. Several different companies were considering it as significant reduction in their inventory costs and several other wastes and with the implementation of Leagile manufacturing they were having only number of inventory returns in a year, which was quite ...
