CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction

This chapter introduces the overall research work and presents an overview of the company. This study is based on a Case study.

1.2 Company Overview-Lucite International Pte Ltd

The company Lucite International is one of the international leaders in innovative and creative designs, manufacturing and development of products based on acrylics. The company is one of the driving forces and encouraging partners behind most of the world's well known products which are manufactured by acrylics and that contributes considerable to a wide range of emerging geographic markets and sectors. It is because of the manufacturing, distribution and sales abilities of the company throughout EAME (European, Africa, & Middle Eastern) (www.luciteinternational.com). In 2009, the Lucite International was acquired by Mitsubishi Rayon Co. Ltd, and after that the management has further strengthened the position of the company by being the largest supplier of MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) in the world, which is the necessary and founding based for all acrylics. The company holds quite a simple philosophy of operating and the management believes on the concept of continuous improvement, which has also been adhered in the brands manufactured by the company and through their practices.

The dedication and determination of the management of the company in order to achieve excellence in everything they do and attainment of highest standards in health, safety and environmental performance, through operational efficiency and contributing positively towards customers of the company. The company values its employees a lot and is determined to achieve high performance standards by believing in its workforce. Therefore, the management tends to deliver management support for females and new mothers. In October 2011, the Finance department has secured an office on Singapore mainland but due to moving out of Jurong Island, salary allowance has been reduced due to shorter travelling distance.

1.3 Statement of the Problem

The review is concerned with the Management Support for new mothers in Lucite International Singapore Pte Ltd.
