Introduction

Different approaches are used by different organizations to increase the productivity and human resource development. Their approaches might be different but their goal is same, to increase the productivity in most efficient manners and increase the morale of employees. Ginsters and Nampak Plastic bottles are the perfect example to understand two different approaches to improve human resource development and to increase productivity efficiently and effectively. In this paper I am going to discuss about the adopted approach by Ginsters and Nampak individually that will make it easy to compare and contrast between the both strategies.

Discussion

Ginsters has adopted the sporty and gym based approach to increase the morale of workforce, whereas Nampak Bottles has adopted the approach by enabling employees with the company and creating the demand for training and development in its workforce. Both approaches has played a vital role in effective performance management. A key requirement of this process is the need to initiate actions and strategies which generate, support and sustain employee engagement because without the wholesale commitment of the workforce organisational performance is likely to suffer.

Ginsters

Ginsters is the United Kingdom based company that was founded by the Gingsters family in 1968. Gingsters is well known for its chilled savoury pastry and considered to be the best and favorite brand amongst the locals for snack food. Ginsters started its business with only 30 employees to produce handmade Cornish Pasties (Envirowise, 2008. p.4). After the acquisition by Samworth Brothers Ltd. in 1977, Ginsters started to climb the ladder of success and now it has more than 750 staff who are producing more than 2.5 million quantity of products every week. Presently, it is one of most recognized and established brand that is always looking for innovative ways to make sure the satisfaction of customers.

Ginsters was facing numerous challenges, where 18 percent of the workforce was belonged to ethnic minority, who were resisting themselves to incorporate in the team. The survey showed that the morale of employees are low, which is not a good sign for any company.

Approach adopted by Ginsters

The approach adopted by Gingsters was named as 'play together, stay together'. The company adopted the approach to involve employees in physical activities. The company managed to gather funding for the testing of employees as they work standing up for long hours. The test showed that most of the employees are not fit. Jane Abraham was the key personnel to play a vital role in this approach. She contacted Sport England and appointed a fitness co-ordinator, Steve Smeeth. She also bought some equipment for the gym within the company. She also managed to create a partnership with Bristol Business School to monitor the results.
