There are principally two types of information collection methods (Bell, 2006, 45). The term primary source is used broadly to embody all sources that are original. This can be contrasted with the sources, which refers specifically to the firsthand collection of data for a particular purpose. In the context of the broader definition, primary sources may be published or unpublished and could be from the past or present. In many types of research, these sources are often created at the time of the event for a specific purpose (Garies, 2007, 77).
A secondary data source refers to a data source that is already in existence (e.g., Gallup, Harris, and Roper polls; General Social Survey; national census) and is being used either for a purpose for which it was not originally intended and/ or by someone other than the researcher who collected the original data. Such sources are considered to be unoriginal or secondhand, but they are nonetheless considered quite valuable.
Primary data sources are most often created using survey research. There are a number of different survey techniques that can be used to collect primary data, such as interviews (e.g., face-to-face, telephone, e-mail, and fax) or self-administered questionnaires. When polls, censuses, and other direct data collection are undertaken, these all constitute primary data sources. However, when these sources are subsequently used by others for other research purposes, they are referred to as secondary data sources (Grunig, 2007, 120)
The present organizational culture of Cranborn Language College represents that it lacks the flavor of innovation, since it did not ever attempted any change.
