Leader's choice of the framework has great influence of his gender and cultural background in an organization. Leadership is power, exercise of influence of an authority that seeks to inspire the conduct of others (individuals or groups) in order to get them to voluntarily achieve clearly defined objectives. While some have congenitally predisposed to leadership, it is also true that leadership develops over time. What is the key to a strong leadership? How to improve weaknesses to achieve actual results? How to mobilize and energize your team towards a common goal?
Bolman and Deal's Four Framework Approach to Leadership
According to Bolman and Deal in "Reframing Organizations", one can observe the same social organization through four different frames (frames) to help understand more widely and from different angles. These frames are the structural, political, personal and symbolic.
Informally and without any intention of offending or lecturing, use these frameworks to observe four sectors of Chilean society: bureaucracy, the ruling coalition, the People and parties.
Structural Framework
Using the structural framework, we see the state bureaucracy as a factory or company, characterized by the pursuit of efficiency through rules and procedures, where the main motivation is the fulfillment of the budgets. The rationality prevails over preferences and external pressures. Here, the work of the bureaucrat is to focus on tasks rationally and regulations, rather than on the needs and expectations of citizens.
2.Policy Framework
By the policy framework, we see the ruling coalition as a jungle of interests. Within the parliament, government is a variety of groups and subgroups, each with their own leaders. The existence of different ambitions and expectations among these diverse individuals; groups will always be conflicts because there is never enough to make agreements for each sector you need. It is governed by negotiation, bargaining, threats and multiple commitments. The main motivation is to obtain fame and power handling over other members.
3.Personal Context
Through Personal context, we see people as a family, composed of people who have needs, feelings, limitations and abilities. The main motivation of the people is the growth and personal fulfillment. Leaders manage the "empowerment" of the members through active participation and delivery of guidance and resources needed to achieve the social or family.
4.Symbolic Framework
With the symbolic framework, we see the matches as some sects, organized as closed groups, motivated by myths, stories, ceremonies, rituals and heroes. Here, more prevalent superstition that rationality we see with other frames. Its membership is passionate and committed to the institution that believes with a unique identity, predestined to lead the country's destiny. Is a leader who communicate the idea that the party can only fulfill this mission better than all the other parties? (Bolman & Deal, 2008)
