Introduction

In the past, the employees of an organisation, as well as, the managers were expected to be efficient in their work. Their level of efficiency was measured through the output per unit of input. Today, the focus has shifted from efficiency to effectiveness. It is no longer the input output ratio that determines the productivity of the personnel (www.icmrindia.org). It is, rather, the effectiveness of the managers, as well as, employees of the organisation. When people get appointed as managers, they feel that they have achieved all they wanted. They think that they have it made. However, to be successful managers, they need to polish their skills of the managing themselves, as well as, managing others (Charan, Drotter, Noel, 2001, pp.1). Most of the people in the top positions or the managerial level need to get work done from others. For this, they need to mange others and their work well. Managing others can only be done when one manages himself in the best way. In the world of today, the change and competition has gone global. It is important to create self awareness, if one wishes to manage himself, as well as, others (www.nus.edu.sg). It is important for managers to be effective, as they are not only responsible for themselves, but also for a large number of employees that are under him.

To make sure that the people in the organisation work well and according the goals of the organisation, the managers need to manage them well. For managing others, the management of one's own self is important too.

Self management

Self management can be defined as strategies, methods, and skills that are needed by an individual to direct their activities for the achievement of goals, objectives decision making planning, focusing, task tracking, self-evaluation, scheduling, , self-development and self-intervention. The management of oneself is the most crucial thing that a person needs to do. It is one of the most critical jobs that the managers in the organisation also need to do. The things that come in self management include

1.Managing the workload

2.Being aware of the values, emotions and motivations

3.Making use of time in an effective way

4.Keeping yourself up to date with the happenings of the world, as well as, the professional area

5.Maintaining a healthy balance in life

6.Having a positive and enthusiastic approach

There are many ways to make yourself more responsive to self management. If a person wants to be self managed. He or she should

2.They should speak up and not keep things in their minds

3.They should try to honor their work

4.They should keep the promises they make with themselves and others

5.They should try to be more responsible

6.More responsibility means more accountability. They should also be up to being accountable.

7.Trust is an outcome of expectations that are fulfilled. People will trust you when you fulfill their expectations
