It takes account of setting targets and forming suitable courses of achievement to accomplish these targets (Kirchmier, 2000). Companies like Dell Computers, Boeing Airline, Barclays Bank, Hewlett-Packard, Wal-Mart and General Electric are few organizational examples which consider planning phase as one of the integral part in their management functions.

A plan is a decided choice or option for attaining a specific purpose. An individual may set up a plan for his expedition or excursion. In the same way, a business may arrange a plan to accomplish a particular purpose. It is identified as a business plan which takes account of production arrangement, sales arrangement, and so on. Long-range planning basically is the same as planned arrangement; both procedures assess where the business is and where it aims to be at some future position. Approaches are then urbanized for moving the business nearer to its set objectives. Planning is a rational disposition to perform things in logical manner, to assume before performing and to take action in the light of specifics to a certain extent than estimations. Planning is choosing a best option amongst others to execute diverse managerial functions sequentially to attain prearranged objectives.
