Introduction

In the contemporary era, it has become difficult for the organizations to meet up the challenges of the modern business system without management. Management plays a significant role in facilitating an organization to achieve its goals and objectives. Management uses the people and the resources to accomplish the set tasks and objectives of an organization

Management can be defined as the organization and coordination of the activities and tasks of an organization to achieve its goals and objective to yield the desired outcome. Through its different functions, management is able to control the people working as a force in the organization and various processes that can yield proactive outcomes and benefit the company.

Discussion

Management is the basis on which any organization operates to manage and control the people, and activities needed to achieve the objectives that are set by any organization. To manage all these activities the organization appoints personnel who efficiently manage the organization and the processes (Ahmed (2012): 2 & Weihrich & Koontz (1993): 4).

The basic task of management includes both marketing and innovation. The theory of management came in frontline when many enterprises and organizations were subjected to failure in the 19th century. The concepts of management are applied to all level of management and all types of organizations and activities managed by them (Weihrich & Koontz (1993): 4).

The characteristic of management lies in the creativity with which the organization and work force is managed through appropriate decisions and controlling. Management is concerned with the knowledge and practiced skills. Knowledge used to achieve the objective using skills and application is the power of management. Management integrates the skills of different fields and organizes the systematic operations and functions of the organizations (Ahmed (2012): 2).

Organization and management

The structure of organization is based on the components and the relations bonding the work force of an organization. Organization faces three major issues during its operations; issues of the work force, technical issues and organizational issues. The organization operates at three different levels, strategic, tactical and operational level (Bhattacharyya (2012) & Griffin (2007): 5).

The tactical level involves the transition of strategic decision into tactics to achieve the objectives of organization. Strategic level in the organization involves the making of decisions while operational level includes the implementation of the decisions made and the tactics to achieve the target. During all these levels, management theory plays a vital part in the operation to execution of the tasks. This is the basis of the success of an organization (Bhattacharyya (2012)).

Henri Fayol Theory of Management

Henri Fayol was the founder of the modern management theory in 1949. He is considered to be an influential contributor in the field of modern management. He was the first to advocate the principles of management theory. Fayol's 14 principles were first published in 1914 and till today play a comprehensive role of a management tool.
