Besides supporting the economic activity in the region, it also serves the tourist and business industry. Secondly it supports other UK industries as the wages provided by this industry enables the two million employees to spend on other sectors.

Hospitality is the most specialized and diverse industry in today's world. It ranks among the largest industries, employing millions around the world. It is a billion dollar industry which depends heavily on the availability of time, leisure and incomes. Hospitality places such as hotels, restaurants and amusement parks comprise of various groups such as operations, maintenance, marketing, human resource and management.

Hospitality is defined as a relationship which exists between the host and the guest. It is an act of being hospitable. It involves entertainment and reception of visitors, strangers or guests. It is considered as welcoming the visitors in a very friendly manner. It requires the guest to feel that the host is being hospitable through the feelings of generosity, a desire to please and a genuine regard for the guest as an individual.

Banqueting refers to providing a meal to a group. It is a large feast or a meal, considered complete with the desserts and the main courses. It is essential for a ceremony or a charitable gathering. Mostly, it is followed by speeches given in honour of someone special. Conferencing, on the other hand involves meetings and seminars, through which people and organizations discuss regarding their agendas or issues.

Examination

The economy of the United Kingdom, like other western economies, is facing a low rate of growth and structural change. However, the London hotel industry has shown great resilience. The revenue fell down by 5% in 2009, but has since risen up by 25%, reaching a record level. This was mostly due to the Olympics. UK expects a poorer hotel market in 2013 due to the Olympics aftermath. However, UK's banqueting and hotel industry will not be backed down like this for much long.
