Project Management in Construction

Introduction

Project is an assignment that has been undertaken to develop a different, new or unique product or service within the specified time, quality, scope and costs. In other words, the project can also be known as the management and performance of resources such as labor, capital, equipment, materials and other important resources. Project management is the process of planning, motivating, controlling and organizing the resources mentioned above to accomplish specific goals. Project management is six step process. The steps of this theory include identifying the project, determining the desired outcomes, figure out the component tasks, identifying the key players, setting up the timeline and allocation of resources and monitoring of the project. The project controlling and monitoring is one part or step of the project management theory.

Project Monitoring and Controlling

Project monitoring and controlling is the process in which the performance of the project is monitored during the execution of the project so that any drawbacks and errors in the project may be removed and actions to correct the errors may be taken during the execution process. The main advantage of the monitoring is that the work gets regularly checked, and any discrepancies are removed before the completion of the project. The monitoring includes the measuring of ongoing project activities, monitoring the project variables, addressing the issues on the right time and handling the factors that may cause the hurdle in the completion of the project (Ahuja, et.al, 2004, pp. 20-26). Purpose of Monitoring

There is three major purpose of the project monitoring. The Re-scheduling the project, Re-budgeting the project and Re-allocating the staff and labor to the project.

The re-scheduling of the project is done when the project gets derail from the original schedule that is when some lag emerges , or there is time exceed more than the anticipated time of that activity. On the other hand, there might also be a rush schedule in order to run that schedule simultaneously which will cover up the lag and exceeded time (Marco, et.al, 2009, pp. 853-861).

The re-budgeting of the project is done when the actual costs of the project go beyond the planned costs, and the project is still incomplete. It is also done when even the activity of the project that is a smaller chunk of the work consume extra cost which is more, than the planned cost of that activity. This is done because there is always a limited budget for a project that the organization allocates to it (Marco, et.al, 2009, pp. 853-861).

The re-allocation of the staff is the movement of the staff from one project to the other. This is done when the labor team is not able to perform according to the requirement of the project or the project stays behind due to the laziness of labor and the staff. This may also be done if there are many mistakes and errors made by the staff and labor which in turn leads to delay or failure ...
