Introduction

Management have existed thousands of years before. The construction of pyramids and the Great Wall of China was the huge projects and reflect the outstanding management skills in planning and accomplishing the tasks with such a great magnitude. The principles and the practices of management today have evolved over a great deal.

To attend the challenges of organizational management, a manager with extraordinary managerial skills of administration is required, who must have keen observation and potential capacity to allow liabilities in the organizational culture. A competent manager is the one who coordinates and directs the work in order to accomplish the goals of an organization. The development of a career plan within the framework of the organization is his prime job description (Ancona, 1989, pp. 19-28).

To understand well how an organization must adopt healthy principles and practices of management behaviours, a scenario-based study is presented here.

Case Study: Ryanair

Ryanair is an Irish airline and the European's only low-cost carrier with headquarter at Dublin. As a result of the deregulation of the European aviation industry, the airline enjoyed a rapid expansion in 1997. The company operates 300 Boeing 737-800 aircraft making 1,600 daily flights from more than fifty bases, connecting 180 destinations in thirty countries. With a twenty- nine year safety record and the 9000 highly skilled employees, the company is planning to induct 175 new aircrafts in its fleet by the year 2018.

With such a brilliant statistics, the company has been receiving criticism in many of its operations mainly due to the high fee and charges customer services and the incidence of putting passengers at risk to save time because of frequent delays, as happened on September 23, 2012 while landing on German airport as reported by Der Spiegel on December 10, 2012. Moreover, the in-house ill-treatment with the employees, like increased workloads and pay cuts has also been criticized in many of the local and international newspapers (Hambrick, 1989, pp. 278-285).

The company's chief executive officer, Michael O'Leary, also has been charged with the arrogance and using obnoxious remarks for the workers and for the people of media for publishing reports of the company. His rasping management styles, non-professional attitudes with market competitors and irrational steps taken for the cost and accounts management are some of the reasons that prove him incompetent according to latest theories of skilful managers in the business administration.
