Introduction

Management of knowledge and information effectively is integral for the success of any organization. In this paper, we have anaylsed various perspectives of handling effective communication, information and knowledge within various organizations. Each organization has a separate issue that needed to be resolved, for which we have offered strategies of improvement that have been chalked out in detail.

Discussion

AC1.1 The Waitrose supermarket is famous for the quality and freshness of food that it provides with. As a team, everyone serving the supermarket works hard to give the best quality food to its customers. The best strategy that they employ is that if a customer does not like a product, he should inform them and it will be replaced and refunded. However, there is major confusion and duplication of management responsibilities and decision making at Waitrose supermarket (The Grocer).

As a consultant, drawing a fine line between the management responsibilities and decision-making is necessary. Let us discuss how it can be separated to avoid any confusion and duplication.

Management Responsibilities

The Waitrose Board is responsible for all the commercial activity of Waitrose and formulates the business plan and strategy for the company.

Strategic Planning

It is important that the Waitrose Board carries out the planning and organizing of the business. That means that its responsibility should be to develop business goals, and formulate strategies and resources to implement these goals.

Decision-Making

One of the major responsibilities of the Waitrose Board is to make the final decisions within the organization. The board should decide on what changes should be brought in to acclimatize to external and internal factors, which influence the operations of the business. The board must also decide how and when to employ its capital resources in the organization. It should also select suppliers and vendors for smooth running of the supermarket.

Informational Role

Another integral responsibility of the management should be to spread relevant information, which is needed within the team members. That means it should collect, monitor and report about relevant information and changes to keep the performance of the supermarket rolling.

Decision Making

Decision-making can be done in Waitrose supermarket at all levels to make the right choices and let things happen perfectly. It is important that managers at all levels should take effective decisions for the benefit of the company. Long-term decisions, which have a major influence on the company as a whole, should be made by the highest management levels that is the Waitrose Board. All those decisions that influence the everyday operations of the supermarket should rely with the middle management of the supermarket. Hence, decisions should be made in the following three levels within the organization:

Decision Making at the Top Level

The top management of the supermarket should translate the scope of the mission and vision of the supermarket into a full-fledged strategic plan. Decisions, which are related to strategy, include nationwide prospects, which have a long-term impact to the business.
