Why is learning and development important?

Learning is said to be the acquisition, modification of knowledge that existing in terms of knowledge and skills and that is acquired newly which eventually results in a change of behavior. Learning is only possible if the individual is trained. For training to be effective it is mandatory for it be an activity that is planned. Planning should take place based on needs analysis. It is after an apt training session that an individual will be able to learn and build upon what he acquired earlier. Learning should take place in specialized environment which is free for barriers that can be a form of hindrance. When it comes to the designing training session it should be ensured that all goals, be it the individual's goal or the organizational goal, should be considered and be five utmost priority. Realistically it is not completely possible to ensure that there is a complete sync amidst the individual goals and organizational goals but it is tried to the maximum that there is a win-win situation when it comes to the competency. Practically the organizations tend to develop training oriented calendars which have goals specified on learning. The calendar is such that it has goals and objectives from the start of the financial year whereby the needs of the employee are analyzed and then ensured that by the end of the year the needs turn into a reality. The identification of the need is done by training need analysis which is said to be a part of the performance appraisal process (Mayo, 2005, pp. 9).

It is via the training that the individual is said to be synthesizing differ types of learning. Learning is said to be trait of the humans as well as animals along with few machines. There are learning curves that are made to see the extent to which learning has taken place and the maximum level at which learning is possible. Learning is said to be contextual by nature and it isn't compulsory. Learning can never happen all at once since it takes some time to build upon the previous knowledge by rendering it. Learning, by all means, can be termed as being a process rather then it being a set of procedural or factual knowledge. Learning can also take place based on experiences. Effective learning tends to makes changes cognitively on permanent basis (Mayo, 2005, pp. 9).

When effective learning has taken place it communicates the fact that an individual is able to understand and comprehend the meaning of it and at the same time is also bale to understand the importance of it and how that particular learning is apt in the society he or she resides in. The individual should ensure the fact that he transfers the same set of teaching that he has learned to the society based at an individual level or to other employees when it comes to the organizational perspective considering if the set of teaching is apt for ...
