Discussion

Task 1

One of the major influences on the corporate performance can be referred to the unit level planning. Being head of any business unit implies huge responsibility that involves immense research and planning. The manager I interviewed is positioned as marketing, sales and PR business unit manager. The basic responsibility is to build up and communicate expectation level and vision to the unit members. The strategies must be in accordance with the organisational goal (creativepool.co.uk, n.d). Further on a group scale, the manager is supposed to integrate various team functions and ensure that marketing strategies are effective in reaching their sales target. He contributes to and supervises marketing campaigns. Further, he conducts the research and analyzes the product demand by examining the sales figures. This leads to make plans and strategies to match the demand of the product. However, during the interview I asked the manager regarding his daily duties and tasks, he stated that the common daily tasks are;

To analyse and monitor market trends

To examine products and services offered by competitors

To explore and study different ways to improve existing products and control cost without compromising on quality in order to increase profitability

To indentify target market, plan and develop strategies to correspond with them

To analyze sales team target performance on daily basis

To co-ordination with the other business units to synchronize our strategies on daily basis since all units are interlinked with each other

To support and manage marketing and sales team

Apart from the above daily task there are other duties that need to be carried out on monthly basis, such as;

To conduct presentations and seminars to promote public relations

To present research findings regarding target market's demand, taste and feedback to the company directors

Prepare and manage marketing and sales plan and its budget

Liaise with the other business units, such as advertising department.

To travel abroad for sales meeting, attend conferences and trade shows.

He stated that sometimes he has to sit for additional hours in the office to ensure that targets are met. Further, the manager said that marketing and sales is multi oriented profession, which includes various aspects of branding, advertising, research, public relation, direct marketing and communication.

The role of marketing and sales manager is vast and holds great importance in the performance of the organisation of any industry. It focuses to ensure that consumer needs and demands are met while maintaining the quality and maximizing the profit of the organisation. This implies a huge accountability of the manager, thus he uses a wide range of concepts regarding ...
