For any organization to successfully thrive towards accomplishing goals and meeting customers' requirements there was a need to devise a framework that focused on how organizational processes can be ameliorated. It is solely because of the presence of managers within an organization that multinational corporations have been able to achieve the success that they have. As specified in management innovations (2008) the managers are guides that are responsible for leading the organization to success and helping the organization achieve it's goals. Along the course of time management theories have evolved and altered which have been a source of guidance and inspiration for managers on how to effectively incorporate the concept of management into their core practices.
The concept of management can be traced back to Fayol (1925) who presented the six core elements of management and categorised them into forecasting, planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling, it was from this very concept that theorists have devised a number of different theories that can be applied to an organization for the purpose of planning activities for the purpose of achieving goals. Management also plays a vital role in understanding the varying human behaviours that exist within an organisation and how they can be dealt with, however by the 20th century the concept of management was broken down into various disciples that made managing them a lot easier. Managers are responsible for achieving organisational goals through other people (Rey, 2012). MSG (2001) further highlights the importance of management within an organisation by specifying that effective management helps the organisation achieve group goals by effectively managing various factors of production and efficiently manages the resources and ensures no wastes during the processes, management ensures the optimal utilization of resources, resources including both human resources and physical resources. By effectively utilization resources organizations are also able to reduce costs. Management also ensures there are no overlapping functions within the organisation. Once every element within the organisation is effectively put into place and effectively managed organisations can easily create a stable organisation.
Managers have a very dynamic role to play within any organisation they ensure that every facet of the company is performing to its fullest. Decision making is one of the most important aspects of managing, decision vary from small organisational changes, planning new products, structural changes and decisions regarding hiring new employees whatever the context decision making continues to be one of the core principles of any successful organisation.
