Introduction

Magnet status is an award which is given by American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC), which is an affiliate to the American Nurses Association, to those hospitals who are able to justify the criteria which are required for the strength and quality of nursing. Magnet status began in 2008, the hospital board and administration actually approved this as a goal in 2003 (Kramer, Schmalenberg, Maguire, 2010).

They are characterized as operating philosophy back then as functioning in separate silos without understanding nursing roles. Today many hospitals share decision making and ask who else need to work with them to make a change successful. Magnet status is involved in decision making and data collection in delivering care to the patient. The idea behind this is that magnet nursing leaders value staff nurses and involve them in the practices which are research based. These practices reward them in nursing practices.
