LONNIE MASTERS, 43, LEADER OF A HARD ROCK BAND RIDING THE CREST OF SUCCESS.

Lonnie sits in a closed bathroom stall. He sat on the toilet, bent forward and carefully removed his long brown wig. Messages are scrawled on the walls around him. He slides the needle into his vein. The muffled sound of a crowd is evident. Blood and the amber heroin mix. The crowd's chanting louder. He depresses the plnger and the drug hits his system.The crowd chants:

"Lonnie, Lonnie, Lonnie. Lonnie's eyes roll back into his head as he spasms and slides off the toilet. An announcer can clearly be heard, "Sacramento's Amphitheater is proud to welcome the hottest rocker's in the nation, may be the world. Give it up for Lonnie and the Masters!!!" Lonnie lies on the floor, phlegm and drool oozing from his mouth.

The deafening sound of the crowd.Flashbacks as the door to the bathroom is pushed open. Once the sound of running water reached her ears, the porcelain god got a morning offering, then she made the mistake of actually looking into the mirror. The reflection that met her puffy eyes was something out of a child's worst nightmare and she quickly turned away.

THERE IS LONNIE MASTERS AS A CHILD IN SHORT PANTS AND LEG BRACES. HE AND HIS MOTHER, MILLIE MASTERS, WALK UP A DIRT ROAD TO A WHOREHOUSE.HE HAD POLIO. SOME SCANTILY CLAD WOMEN ARE SITTING ON THE PORCH. HIS MOTHER TELLS THEM THAT SHE IS THERE TO TAKE THE WASHING JOB.

The women look her over and call for the Madam, Desdamona aka Dessie. Dessie agrees that her figure can make her some money. They enter the whorehouse.

Dessie:There's more scantily clad women.

In a parlor there is a black man, Abel, playing a guitar and a white man, Richard, playing a piano.

LONNIE IS FASCINATED WITH THE GUITAR. ABEL TAKES HIM UNDER HIS WING. HE TEACHES HIM ABOUT THE PIANO. HIS MOTHER FINALLY STARTS TAKING MEN AND THOUGH LONNIE DOESN'T LIKE IT, THE MONEY HELPS THEM TO LIVE BETTER.

AS HE GROWS UP, LONNIE STARTS TO PLAY THE PIANO AT THE BROTHEL

HE GROWS OUT OF HIS BRACES AND EVEN WITH HIS SLIGHT LIMP, HE GROWS INTO A VERY ATTRACTIVE YOUNG MAN. HE VARIED HIS LOOK CONSTANTLY SO WE COULD NEVER GROW ACCUSTOMED TO HIS APPEARANCE, AND HE OFTEN USED MAKEUP THAT WAS STARTLINGLY WHITE—NOT THE SHADE HE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN IF HE WERE TRYING TO PASS UNNOTICED. HE DOES HOWEVER HAVE CHRONIC PAIN BECAUSE OF THE LIMP. THIS WILL BECOME MORE OF A PROBLEM. HE HAS OBSERVED A LOT ABOUT WOMEN BUT EVEN SEEING ALL THAT HE HAS NEVER BEEN WITH A WOMAN UNTIL A BEAUTIFUL QUADROON GIRL NOT ONLY IS SHE BEAUTIFUL, HE ANNOUNCES, TO HIM SHE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD.
