Living At Home versus Living in a Dorm

Introduction

Every year, thousands of high school graduates decide to break away from the area they call home and move to a location where they could finally escape the stress of parents, siblings and their very own house and neighborhood. For the majority of the students, the move was a much needed change, an enjoyment, and otherwise a great new place to call home. There are some young adults however, who find the new life in college to be stressful, enjoyable, and an all together difficult event (Bresler, pp 289-789).

Discussion

To begin, I would like to state my own opinion on dorm life. I feel that life at college is, in most cases, can be better than life at home. Parents, jobs, and siblings are not an issue as they would be at home. There are many students of a close age, who live within walking distance of your dorm. Fewer rules tend to apply, in terms of what to do, where not to go, or anything of the trivial nonsense that one might have to deal with living with their parents (Bresler, pp 289-789).

Students find that there are more people to associate with, and more fun to be had in the college atmosphere. No longer does one have to worry about a curfew, or reporting to their parents, as to where they are going. Independence is what makes life at college desirable. Studying in an effort to achieve a degree and better ones self, are the main focuses at dorm life. There are smaller amount of outside distractions. Meals, although not always as good as home, are available to the student upon demand. The whole thing is within walking distance.
