Introduction

Tales are important part of folk tradition and almost every tradition has its own tales which people of that tradition use to enjoy. The tales differ from culture to culture and region to region. The research showed that the tales depend upon the culture and used with the intentions of delivering a thoughtful message. There are different types of messages that used to be delivered from tales such as high morality, humanity, advices to children, power of youth and importance of time. It is not necessary that tales must have a moral messages but it can have a comedy touch which people enjoyed over many years. This report will focus on the tale “Little Red Riding Hood” written by Brothers Grimm. The report will examine how that tale has been in used in culture mediation. The report will also present difference between the non-oral version of the tale to its oral version. As stated above, the content of the tales depend upon the culture of the region or audience so the report will also unfold the elements (used in the tale) that are related to target audience. The tale Little Red Riding Hood basically focused on teaching children and highlighting the importance of advice of parents and elders (Hrobat, 2007).

Discussion

The author of the tales introduces the characters along with their relationships. As in the start of the tale, an old lady (grandmother) gifted a red hood to a little girl this shows a loving relationship between the grandmother and granddaughter. In this tale, it has shown that the grandmother is very weak and her family used to take care of her (Hrobat, 2007).

The grand daughter was advised by her mother to go to grandmother and deliver cake and wine to her. In the tale, the daughter is attached to the gifted Red Hood and named as Little Red Riding Hood. The Little Red Riding Hood was advised by her mother to go very carefully and do not leave the path and take care of the cake and wine. The daughter in response promised that she will follow her advices. This showed the cultural values that the good children used to listen parents advices respectfully (Apo & Hackston, 2007).

Oral-Version

The oral version of the story is different than the non-oral version of the story. The oral version of the story states that little red riding hood met with the wolf in her way to grandmother who successfully deviated her from her path. The little red riding hood told her intentions to wolf that she is going to serve cake and wine to her grandmother who is sick and need food to get some energy. However, the wolf was very wicked and tried to persuade the little girl by telling her about the beautiful flowers that she can see inside the woods.
