Introduction

Language learning is a natural phenomenon that involves learning in natural environment. It is affected by the social and cultural practices of in the surrounding and in the same way; it depends on a number of different tools for the process of communication. There are various important perspectives associated with the language learning and practice. According to street language learning involves a “complex system” of learning as well as a literacy practice in the “family, community and home” (Street, 2001, p.189). This reveals the fact that there are a number of different important perspectives associated with the language learning. Literacy practice is very important because it facilitates the process of communication as well as language learning. Therefore, literacy practice involves a number of different positive aspects associated with the understanding of social and cultural perception. According to Bloome et, al, it involves a number of different cultural practices that shared abstraction in a particular set of events (Bloome, et.al, 2005). Reading and writing both are very essential skills in literacy practice and a very frequent means of communication. Communication involves a number of social and cultural practices and tools for the improvement in literacy practices. The frequency and use of communication technologies depends on the requirement of situation.

Thesis Statement

My literacy practice today involves reading and writing with the use of different communication technologies and means, its frequency to use varies according to the need and demand of communication.

My Literacy Practices Today

In modern world of digital technology and age of communication, there are a number of different means of communication available in our daily life. For reading and writing both involves a number of different tools and mediums. As it is the age of communication and information technology it is not possible to be away from exposure of reading and writing. Literacy practice is not only confined to academic boundaries, but as a social phenomenon it depends on all our surroundings (Schlembach, 2012). This means that when we look around and whatever we read and write, no matter for what purpose it is a part of our literacy practice. This is the reason that language skills can be more enhanced with the environment, culture and surroundings around us.

To identify my reading and writing skills of literacy practices today, I looked around me and began to observe material and other stuffs around me. There a number of different materials and communication means that provides a chance for the literacy practices such as media, television, whenever we watch television, there are a number of different commercials, news slides and a number of different other written material that I read unconsciously, while watching TV. When I look around I found a number of different other stuffs like on bottles of medicine and other stuffs with tags that provides texts, I write notes and reminders, read and write messages and a number of other practices.
