In this paper we are going to discuss the use of Linux in an organization. The windows system is to be replaced with Linux due to its flexibility and technical competency over the windows. A research is to be conducted for the feasibility of using Linux in work station as well as server based environment. We are going to compare and contrast the workstation and server environment based on Linux system.
A detailed comparison is to be made for the Linux workstations and Linux server based products made by three separate vendors of the Linux systems. There advantages and disadvantages are to be compared over the conventional windows based environment for estimating the feasibility of the switching and conversion of the entire system.
Also, in this paper, the issues of total cost of ownership along with support, reliability, and performance, training and application availability are to be discussed in details.
Discussion
In the proposed research we are going to analyze the issues of cost of installation. The arguments in favor of replacing the windows based system with the new Linux environments are to be given. The economical considerations are also to be kept in lime light in regard to the cost of operation minimization and system efficiency.
There is a great difference in operational cost in two systems. The Linux based systems are proved to be more economical and cost effective solution. The initial cost of installations of the systems of Linux are to be discussed and three different vendors are to be compared in terms of their products, speed, cost, reliability, security and efficiency associated with the process. First we will write the information about each vendor and then amztrix or a table is to create for the comparison of these different vendors.
The most competitive advantage of Linux systems as mentioned by Phil Cox, who is a principal consultant at 'SystemsExperts', is the effective operational flexibility and liberty of Linux based system. On the other hand, there are cost related issues with Microsoft, because, there are relative licensing fees associated with each of the version of a newly installed software required for the optimum performance of the system. He also added that, the performance of Linux based system is 25% faster in comparison with the other hardware platform associated with the windows based system (Messmer E., 2010).
