Project management

The concept of project management pertains to the planning, execution, organization and completion of a project. The term management corresponds to the effectiveness and efficiency of the entire process of the project. It is defined as “the planning, organizing and utilizing of organizational resources to complete a project”. It is the science that pertains to the management of the project with underlying principles and resources. It is the most effective and fundamental determinant of the successful completion and execution of the project. Project management encompasses of all the infrastructure and sustainable projects being executed across the globe. It comprises of all the facts that deal with a project, in terms of, input to output ratio, as well as, the extent to which the project s capable of reaching its goals (Levy, 2011, pp. 54-113).

Overview of other approaches of project management

The field of project management is an evolving field, and therefore, it has approaches proposed every now and then. There are several approaches to project management that are in action since the evolution of industrialization in the European markets, major approaches are discussed as under;

The traditional approach: it has five major steps in completion of a project, they are, initiation, planning and design, execution and construction, monitoring and control system, completion.

PRINCE2: it pertains to the completion and delivery of the project in particular requirements.

Critical chain project management: the approach pertains to the designing and execution of a project process or chain through inherent risks in the project could be handled.

Event chain: it is based upon the uncertainty modeling and project scheduling; it breaks the project into several events, and therefore, proposes a process that addresses each event individually.

Process based management: the approach corresponds to the utilization of software that tends to align a better process for the management of the project.

Agile project management: it is the approach that pertains to the interaction of human skills and their collaboration with the process management tools to enhance the probability of success of the project

Lean management: one of the most advanced approaches induced for project management, the approach pertains to value delivery along with the reduction of waste and time

Extreme project management: It combines one or two approaches together to handle a large scale projects (Melton, 2008, pp. 63-114).

About the paper

The paper encompasses of the concept of project management, as well as, a small overview of the approaches of project management. The paper than focuses the lean production delivery system, one the most efficient and effective project management approaches to be considered so far.

The paper than tries to build the concept of the lean production delivery system along with the description, goals and outcomes, it further looks into the limitation in the application of the Lean production delivery system, that is, the obstacles that make it difficult to be implemented and utilized in the project management.
