Introduction

Victimology is a discipline that studies information that explains the occurrence and informal relationships related to victimization. These occurrences that lead to victimization include, experience of victim, outcomes and reaction of a society to victimization. Hence, the study of victimology includes precursors study, events, susceptibility, impacts, recoveries and response of people, who are related to victimization.

The extent and nature of victimization is inadequately perceived by the world. The number of people has been suffering because of victimization such as outcomes of crime, terrorism, stark misfortune, and the abuse of power. In 1985, UN General Assembly approved the Declaration on Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power, which stated a benchmark that facilitates in identifying the progress of fulfilling the victim's needs and abuse of power. Even the victim families and witnesses are still partially subjected to damage, loss or injury. Actions must be taken to create awareness across the world. In mid 1970, the programs of victim assistance were introduced with the realization of the fact that this field required high skills, and there is a shortage of the professional corps that can deal with crime victims. Thus, there is a need of specific training. In order to facilitate this program, diverse professionals worked together such as, doctors, psychiatrists, ministers, on- the- job trained counselors, psychologists , social workers , nurses, and volunteers with all levels of training. Before making a training program, it is essential to consider the issues and challenges faced by victims, particulars the victims of family violence or child abuse. Nowadays, era has changed and a number of professionals as well as non-professionals are working with sufferers (Doerner & Lab, 2002).

Nowadays, victims of crime are gaining interest of the world. Pepler et al. (2006) asserts that increased number of victim movements as a natural outcome of modernity, where victims are lacked behind in the legal process. Police force is essential in the case of victimization, as they are the first ones who came in contact with victims. The role of police is very essential in determining the victim's experience and opinion of public, the attitude of the corps has an influence on the willingness of the victim and the quality of information related to crime and offender. Furthermore, police officers can play a vital role in the process of healing a victim because as front line officers their attitude has an important impact on psychological status of a victim, and to provide these amenities police as well as civil personnel require training to cope up with the needs and problems of victims of a crime.

Discussion

The traditional roles of police officers were limited to charge with the criminal apprehension, and prevent and detect crime, as well as to maintain public order.
