Identification of the educational need and rationale
In order to prepare good nurses, a well integrated and effectively coordinated educational plan is the need of time. It is important to note that educational plans are devised on a holistic or macro level, but success is only achieved when a macro plan is followed by micro planning and execution.
The significance of this lesson plan can be attributed to the need of technical education for nurses working at Kettering Health Network. It was observed that in spite of the name that Kettering Health Network has established for itself, there are quality issues in the nursing department. There were various complaints filed in this regard. The data revealed that both management and the bedside general nurses themselves realized that there was a need for the implementation of bedside electronic medical record. This will improve the quality of care. In addition, this should be coupled with Personal Computer Clinical Care. This will help in the charting of patient care plans.
Goals and learner outcomes for the lesson
The purpose of this lesson plan is to provide technical education regarding General Nursing care at bedside utilizing computerized charting. This lesson plan is aimed to offer knowledge and education regarding the use of Bedside Electronic Medical Record, to the nurses working at Kettering Health Network.
Following are the learning outcomes of the lesson:
Nurses at will understand the necessity for the up gradation and use of Bedside Electronic Medical Record in the hospital. Students will see the need for multiple methods of presenting the same information and how different people understand things different ways.
Students will us a verity of descriptive terms to "explain" an abstract drawing to their peers. Those drawing will be expected to ask pertinent, clarifying questions.
Through this the learners will be able to follow the nursing process and capture information on the patient in a standardized language.
The lesson plan will enable the use of this data to be integrated with other electronic patient health record data programs.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course students will understand the principle and concepts of Bedside Electronic Medical Record and how to use them effectively clinically. Students will have the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to deliver patient centered care, working as part of interdisciplinary teams, focusing on quality improvement, and using information technology effectively.
Identification of the instructional design model
In this lesson, we are focused to utilize Instructional design model in order to create an instructional environment with clear and effective materials that will help the student develop the ability to accomplish certain tasks related to use of Bedside Electronic Medical Record in the hospital. Instructional design is the science of creating detailed specifications for the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of situations that facilitate learning in small and large units of content, at different levels of complexity. Instructional design as a discipline is the branch of knowledge related to research and theory about instructional strategies and the process of developing and ...
