This large and small group activity will teach children about numbers and colors, through oral reading discussion, and hands-on experiences. They will be instructed on the different numbers and counting quantities. We will reinforce the different colors and numbers. Students will create their own number chart.

Lesson Description
Circle time (15-20 min): Transition students to the rug by playing the Number Rock song, while singing & dancing and counting to 20. Students will also select a number 1-10 from a bag and identify the number.
Prior knowledge- a quick review of colors and numbers using flash cards. Discuss today's story, and how we identified the colors on the first read aloud.
Today we will reread the story, and will be working with numbers and counting.
Students will place a spot on a dog using the correct colors, during the read aloud. The class will be counting the spots as they are given. The class will be counting the spots as they are given. Students will be called by using the numbers they selected.
While students are selecting the correct color and placing a spot on a dog, the teacher will be creating a number chart on the board.
Upon completion of read aloud, we will count the number of spot on each dog and in all on both dogs (20).
After the read aloud, students identify their number, when called to go to a center in pairs. (Teacher had made 2 sets of number cards; one set in red and the other was in blue) The teacher assistant set up the center choices during reading.
Centers (60 min): the teacher and teacher assistant work with 2 or 3 students at a time on completing their number charts. They will also oversee the other activities.
During Center time, students are playing go fish and counting the number of worms their fish ate. Other students played pin the spot on dog, and counted how many spots dog had when the bowl was empty. Some students used the Blue Print Application -Where is Dog- with positional words and picture match-up.
