Thesis Statement

The legalization of marijuana is completely against the ethical standards provided by ethical theories like utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics; and therefore the legalization of marijuana must be opposed.

Introduction

This paper intends to discuss the significance of theory and practice of ethics. The theories studied within this course were classical ethical theories of utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. Also, the different perspectives on ethical issues introduced by relativism, ethical egoism, and emotivism were discussed. Therefore, the application of all these theories will remain the basic intent of this paper. The ethical issue chosen for the purpose of discussion is legalizing marijuana. I have chosen this issue because it worries and enrages me largely and I intend to oppose the legalization of marijuana which is such a deadly thing for our society. This rough draft will make me able to write my final paper more coherently.

Discussion

There are ever going debates about the legalization of marijuana. People are both proponents and opponents of legalizing marijuana. In my opinion, the legalizing of marijuana would result in extreme disadvantages for the society and similarly I believe that legalization of marijuana is completely against the ethical standards provided by theories like utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics. The most important argument against the legalization of marijuana is that if the government becomes soft to the usage of any one form of drugs, it will result in increased problems related to the usage of drugs. There are various important arguments which need to be focused while talking against the legalization of marijuana (Wandberg, Kaufman & Shepich, 2000).
